Our last full day in Yellowstone started at West Thumb Geyser Basin. we explored the area and took in a fabulous ranger talk about the geothermal areas of the park. (Go to ranger talks, they have so much great info to share!)
This lake is huge, maybe not as huge as I'm used to in the Great Lakes region but for an alpine lake it his huge for sure! And the landscape around it, like the rest of the park, is fascinating!
We went to Fishing Bridge to see that, and then back up to Yellowstone Lake Hotel to rest a bit before heading to dinner. We had reservations at The Lake Hotel Dining Room for my birthday before our tour. Loved this restaurant! Great food and fantastic service. My kids (who have always been foodies) loved the selection here as well. The view from the dining room is also amazing, looking out over the lake. This is another hotel I want to stay in sometime!
We went out to the lobby to meet our tour guide for the Sunset Tour. Amusing story... I thought I had booked a Sunset BOAT tour on the lake and was excited to have a boat trip on our trip to vary things up a bit. So when I realized it was NOT a boat trip about 3 days earlier, I was partially bummed. I honestly don't know where I got that in my head unless it was wishful thinking, because it is NOT in the description. Anyway, at least it was an iconic Yellow Bus we were touring in. That was still like living a bit of history.
We drove around the lake and Hayden Valley and then finished on a high overlook to see great lake views with the sunset and the Tetons in the distance. This was especially fitting because we were headed to the Tetons the next day!
